Change a future – take a leap into fostering Three brave North Lincolnshire foster carers completed a skydive at Skydive Hibaldstow during Foster Care Fortnight in May to show that taking a leap of faith and landing on the opportunity to become foster carers was one of the best decisions they made. Sue, foster carer and chair of the North Lincolnshire Foster Carer Association, said: “Skydiving is like fostering, it’s scary and you’re not sure you can do it but when you’ve taken that jump it’s exciting, rewarding and you want to do it all over again. Our fostering community is fantastic, brave and supportive. I’m proud of them all and I would encourage people to give it go.” Foster carers in North Lincolnshire make a real difference to children’s lives and we are seeking new carers to care for children of all ages. Could you take a leap and change their life? Sonia, a foster carer with North Lincolnshire Council, said, after completing the skydive: “It was amazing. I’ve wanted to do something like this for a long time. It is like fostering as you don’t know what you’re going to see or what you’re going to get. As we jumped out of the plane, it was freezing cold, and we went through some really dark clouds, and you can really liken that to fostering as some days are really cloudy. Then other days it’s bright sunshine because as we went through the clouds it slowly faded, and boom! Blue skies and sunshine. It was incredible and the emotional rollercoaster that I’ve been on is like fostering. You will go on a rollercoaster, but do you know what?, the highs are way better than the lows. The highs happen way more than the lows. It was just awesome.” For more details about fostering in North Lincolnshire, including reading stories of existing foster carers, go to www.northlincs.gov.uk/fostering. Cllr Julie Reed, cabinet member for children and families, said: “The opportunity to become a foster carer is a big commitment, but one that is hugely rewarding. We are looking for more foster carers in North Lincolnshire to provide a warm, caring home for children of all ages. “If you have ever thought about fostering, or just want to find out more, get in touch to find out more details, or if you know someone who would make a great foster carer, tell them about us. “There is no such thing as a typical foster carer. All we ask is that they can offer time, commitment, patience and a loving and stable home.” If you would like to find out more information about fostering, speak to the friendly team at Normanby Hall’s ‘Party in the Park’ on 23 July from 3pm onwards and Waters’ Edge Visitor Centre, Barton upon Humber on 31 July, 10am to 4pm.
